Richard Smith and Dominic Mussell, Partners and Co
founders of The Internet Consultancy
Rather than publish respective corporate CV's we feel it is better to provide
background of how we started in the industry of internet and marketing consultancy and describe what motivates
us in our mission of helping those that we work with.
In 1997 Richard and Dominic both worked in different roles within the same National
Independent Financial Advisory firm and shortly after the firm was closed down by its parent company (The largest
Building Society in the UK) joined and helped set up another leading National Independent Financial advisory
firm.
At this stage we no longer had basic salaries, company cars, pension schemes etc and
used our prior training to develop our own successful practices, but found that we were unable to market to our
existing clients and develop new ones due to the shackles placed upon us by compliance departments who had no idea
of marketing. In frustration we set up a separate firm and developed one of the first Mortgage Comparison websites
with online applications many years before the likes of Moneysupermarket or should it be called
Moneysupermeerkat... The website that was developed gained the number one placing on MSN for the search term
mortgage comparison for many years, but unfortunately had to be taken offline due to our respective contracts as we
were classed as employees. Dominic left the firm after presenting to the board of directors about being able to use
the internet to compare investments, only to be told that 'the internet will never work'.
Richard is the technical side of the business and can hold his own with any website
coder and is fully conversant with what makes a website tick, well behind what you see beyond the glossy pictures,
and keeps up to date with the constant change in website search and the internet industry. He is also an expert in
Social Media and has presented seminars on the subject along with internet and business marketing to large
groups of people.
Dominic, whilst not as technical as Richard does understand what makes a website work
and how that constant outside changes can have an impact on a business and their profitability. Having acted as a
consultant and project manager to large UK financial institutions and more specifically in quality assuring
the output of their communication to clients and regulators is well placed to know how to convey the right message
for our clients. He is also a specialist in e-mail marketing and communication having being trained by the late
Corey Rudhl.
Jointly Richard and Dominic have spent in excess of 40 years in the financial services
industry and in excess of 25 years in internet marketing, we are also trained counsellors albeit in different
fields, but feel that from our past experience we have the skills to listen to our clients needs and
objectives and provide solutions to meet their goals. We do not treat our business as a job, but more of a
passion. Our joint goal is to help business owners to succeed in the online world and to ensure that they do not
pay over the odds by being blinded with science from a so called 'guru'.
Our combined experiences have resulted in ourselves being asked to write articles for
the national financial services press, culminating in judging the Professional Adviser magazine awards for the
best Independent Financial Adviser Website category in 2011.
