Could not resist watching the news last night, markets down, talk of a further banking crisis. Small Business lending targets all met by the banks. How funny was it all, poor old Robert Peston (always feel a bit depressed when I see him), giving us more bad news.

It will of course get a lot worse before it gets better, Europe is not able to make any decisions (what with them having 4 Presidents) and an ECB that is more used to dealing with a mediterranean economy – more olives and cold beer than making stuff (ok there’s a stereotype for you) than a global one.

Our own treasury talking about difficult times ahead, as my kids would sms – LOL

The brightest star in French (EU and now the world) finances Christine Lagarde is facing an investigation, the former leader of the IMF is facing prosecution in the U S and he was tipped to be a possible next French president. Class act these people.

With the UK Goverment (both sides of the house) trying to distance themselves from the issues with phone hacking, and are off for the next 10 weeks or so, don’t expect too much from them.

Just wait till the Germans get brassed off with being the E U saviours, bankers.

There is a clear answer, get creative with your marketing, learn some new stuff and bank some cash. The more money you have in the bank the less all of the above will affect you.

What you can’t do is wait, what you can do is immunise yourself and your business.

My post from yesterday is here

Richard Smith

Get your own back on the rest of the world, go and sell something today.

Richard
PS Happy Friday.

Does anyone have a fantasy about your product or service?

Stop all of the mucky thoughts, this is serious stuff.

Just at this way, would any of your customers like the idea of;

Guaranteed delivery times (within 30 minute slots or a phone call to update).

100% No mess installation (think Builders for example).

All of the extra cables required in order to connect up the thingummy whatsit.

What about an alteration service for new clothing, or a free valet with every service, pick up and delivery.

For every one of you, part of your offering will have your customers saying, “wouldn’t it be nice if xxx done that as well” – we all have them little extras that would cost very little, but impress the customer.

For our customers it’s always our under delivery on timescales, but you know what we manage that in our favour just so we look good every time (no one said sleight of hand would not be acceptable).

It’s not difficult to do but you do need to give it some thought, what is it that you need to do to make the difference, to make yourself stand out.

Once you have found out what these mucky little fantasy’s are, put them in to your marketing plan, your website, tell them what it is you do that’s different, that gives you the edge, that makes it simple for someone to do business with you.

I recently listened into some sales calls, for a Hire Business, damn competitive building machinery, you know diggers and the like. Really interesting; the firm hiring the equipment lost 2 sales in few days over delivery and the timing.

The firm wanted machinery delivered ‘out of office hours’ and there was refusal from the sales staff, now what the client wanted was his fantasy played out. A vendor who would get a member of staff to work for another 30 minutes or in order to help him through a difficult couple of days.
Now this machinery was worth many thousands over the months hire, and for the sake of 30 minutes overtime the deal was blown, twice in one week.

Often its not difficult to do, but you do need to do it.
Go and ask some of your customers what they fantasise about and then give it to them. You might be surprised, but your business will be better for it.

Then pander to that fantasy in all of your marketing, your website, your brochures, then do it at the right price and it will sell.

Imagine for one minute, how sexy a big digger is when you want massive holes dug and quickly?

I couldn’t either but I know a builder who can.

For many small and medium sized business owners there is a lot that can be done to:-

Improve Marketing

Increase Cash Flow

Get New Clients at Low Cost

Work Less and Spend More Time Playing Golf.

The big issue is that whilst the information is available for most firms to take advantage of, far to many seem not to be able to ‘join the dots’ and get it all to make sense, and there are a range of reasons for this.

Most are to busy fighting fires to soak up the information, or blame other factors. Financial Advisers it seems will blame everything on Compliance, or the Regulator, Solicitors on the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the local Greengrocer will blame the local superstore, and on and on.

But lets get back to this issue of information, with the changes in the business world over the last 10 years, and then the Credit Crunch over the last 3 change is something that has always been with us and always will be, it’s only the smart business owner that looks for an angle, looks for something that can improve income/sales, and you have choice you can try and take all of this on yourself in the hope that you will understand it.

Or

Partner with someone like us, we can then provide the guidance and the technology you will need moving forward, there is good reason why most new small firms don’t survive for long, and why a lot of other businesses fall by the wayside when recession strikes. We are the only Tech Consultants/Sales and Marketing Consultants in the UK that will work solely on a ‘commision share’ – you increase sales we get paid. There is no other firm of sales consultants in the UK that are doing this, why? Who knows.

It is a simple choice and one that will make all of the difference to your business.

I have taken the opportunity to rewrite one of our downloadable manuals, previously only available to subscribers these Seven Steps if used will improve your lot, really.

The link to the downloadable PDF is below, grab yourself a coffee and think about how you can implement any of these into your business, you will love the results I promise.

You can download the manual below.

I must admit that I have been playing catch up with the news from the Budget Statement however in all fairness not much really changes from year to year, certainly not enough to get excited about. From my point of view, I think I probably save about 2 whole days per year by not thinking about it/reading about it, and of course discussing it.

So on to what the FSB Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has to say about it. Of course it has welcomed some aspects of Wednesday’s budget but claims that planned new employment laws could hinder job creation…………….

Anyway the comments went on and on and on. Not really saying a lot, and of course as the FSB does from time to time. Probably not where you should be, reading stuff that adds no value.

And, me well I just want to remind you that time is short, you need to be focused on your business by spending the 2 days per year you will eventually end up speaking on the budget, around the budget, about the budget. Get used to the fact that not much will change, the impact on you will be very little.

However spending that 2 days working on your business, calling some clients, meeting with us to discuss your marketing or fishing, or playing golf will actually do more for you.
